The death threats in emails that included violent videos and photos were sent during an intimidation campaign instigated on social media by a self-described conservative Republican. The campaign against Majdi—to persuade him to step away from accepting an appointment on the commission—included posts of pictures of Majdi’s children.
“The threats actually did include a reference to beheading,” said Majdi, who comes from an Iranian background.
“You can say anything you want about an elected official or somebody who’s on the ballot about their views,” he said. “Where I draw the line is threatening violence. That’s what’s out of bounds for elected officials.”
